One of the most memorable milestones in our journey was having the opportunity to introduce our Belgian Liege waffles at an event with the Embassy of Belgium in Malaysia.
As a Malaysian brand inspired by one of Belgium's most iconic foods, the experience was both exciting and meaningful. More importantly, it gave us the opportunity to receive valuable feedback from people who understand Belgian culture and cuisine.
🔗Authentic Belgian Liege Waffles
Learning from Belgian Taste
We shared with the Embassy team that our waffles are inspired by traditional Belgian Liege waffles but are also thoughtfully adapted for Malaysian tastes.
Traditional Belgian Liege waffles are often sweeter, while many Malaysian customers prefer desserts that are slightly less sweet and offer more flavour variety.
For this reason, Waffle5 developed flavours such as:
- Original
- Chocolate
- Chocolate Chip
- Japan Black Sesame
- OOH BAE (Purple Sweet Potato)
- Multigrain
Although we adapted some flavours for the local market, we continue to use carefully selected ingredients imported from Belgium whenever possible, including our Belgian pearl sugar, which gives our waffles their signature caramelised texture.
This balance allows us to respect Belgian traditions while creating waffles that Malaysian customers enjoy.
Receiving Honest Feedback
One of the most rewarding moments was hearing the feedback from the Embassy team.
They appreciated the texture and flavour of our Belgian Liege waffles and were pleasantly surprised by some of our unique Malaysian-inspired flavours.
In particular, flavours such as Purple Sweet Potato (OOH BAE) and Japan Black Sesame were something many of them had never experienced in a Belgian-style waffle before.
It was exciting to see how traditional Belgian waffles could be reimagined while still respecting their origins.
A Wonderful Conversation
Beyond serving waffles, we had the opportunity to spend time speaking with the Ambassador and members of the Embassy team.
We shared the story behind Waffle5, our passion for Belgian Liege waffles and our mission to introduce authentic Belgian-inspired waffles to more people across Malaysia.
These conversations gave us valuable encouragement and strengthened our confidence in the direction we are taking as a brand.
From First Meeting to Christmas Catering
What made this experience even more meaningful was what happened afterwards.
Following our first introduction and the positive feedback we received, the Embassy chose Waffle5 to provide Belgian Liege waffle catering for one of their Christmas events.
For us, this was more than just another catering opportunity.
It was a sign that the trust we had worked hard to build had been recognised.
Being invited back to serve guests during such a special occasion remains one of the proudest milestones in our journey.
