A waffle can be one part of breakfast, but it does not need to be the whole meal. Parents can add fruit, a protein food and a suitable drink to create more variety.
Use Four Simple Parts
- A child-appropriate portion of waffle
- A protein food such as egg, plain yoghurt, milk, cheese or suitable legumes
- Whole fruit or vegetables the child can eat safely
- Water, an unsweetened drink or suitable milk
Try Practical Combinations
Option 1: Original waffle, cooked egg, banana and water.
Option 2: Waffle, plain yoghurt and sliced fruit.
Option 3: Original waffle, cheese and child-safe pieces of fruit or vegetables.
Watch the Complete Sweetness
Consider the waffle, syrup, sweet spreads, flavoured yoghurt and drinks together. If one part is already sweet, keep the other additions simple. Whole fruit can add colour and flavour without another sauce.
Begin with a Manageable Portion
Children have different appetites. Start with a smaller complete meal and offer more if the child is still hungry. The total breakfast matters more than the number of waffles alone.
